How Helical Piers Work
Helical piers are long, steel shafts that are threaded at one end, like a screw. The ESOG team uses pressure readings and a mathematical formula to determine how much each pier will hold to ensure that your structure will have the support it needs. We then drive the piers into the soil at pre-determined intervals to share the weight of the structure. After that, we bolt the piers to heavy-duty brackets we have attached to the base of the foundation walls, which transfers the weight of the structure to the piers and locks everything firmly into place.
Helical piers can support weights up to 500 tons, or about the weight of a 10-story building. Because helical piers are made of galvanized steel that resists rusting, they can last up to a hundred years or more, depending on the soil conditions.
