Soil Nail Walls Expertly Installed Throughout the Athens, GA, Area
Soil nail installation is a geotechnical process in which large steel tendons are inserted into the face of a slope, gradient, or open excavation to provide support and prevent the soil from collapsing. Soil nailing is used in a variety of applications, such as excavations to build a deep foundation for a building. Soil nailing is also commonly used to construct retaining walls while building highways, bridges, and other municipal structures. At Engineered Solutions of Georgia, we specialize in soil nailing and other earth retention techniques. We’ve worked with countless commercial clients throughout the Athens, Georgia, area since our founding in 2006. If you have a project that requires soil nailing or other geotechnical services, we would be happy to work with you.
How Soil Nailing Works
Building a soil nail wall is a relatively straightforward process, however, it requires great precision to ensure lasting stability. It also requires specialized machinery to drill holes into the excavated soil or hillside wall that requires stabilization. After the holes are drilled—typically three to six feet deep depending on the condition of the soil and other factors—the “nails” are inserted. These “nails” are large, tension-resisting sinews made of stainless steel. They are installed into the holes along with a fluid-like grout mixture that solidifies to hold the sinews firmly in place. Once all of the metal supports are installed into the wall, a layer of shotcrete is applied over the face to give the retaining wall a finished appearance.
